Christiane Ajoury is a Lebanese self-taught modern abstract artist.
Born in 1975 in Beirut, Christiane had graduated from the Lebanese University with two Master’s degrees in Chemistry and in Education and Training and had taught for 11 years, in addition to conducting researches, statistics and writings in the field of education.
Despite her success in her career, a passion for art was always present. She was always experimenting with pencils, pens, and watercolors in sketchbooks, participating in many art workshops and in 2021 she joined Emmanuel P. Guiragossian art school.
Growing up in Lebanon, she found herself surrounded by the sea, mountains, puffy clouds and roaring rivers which helped develop in her a passion for the natural world. The iconic landscapes of her country are often a source of inspiration for her “energized abstract artworks”.
Christiane states that somehow she uses the scientific approach when painting. She is always researching, experimenting, adding, and scraping paint around the canvas. She finds this technique results in striking contours made of heavy and opaque color and texture against thin, filmy transparency.
Christiane is seeking opportunities to show and expose her artwork as well as the sparkling energy that emanates from her paintings, promising you an open invitation into her world .
Inspirations
“I have always felt like art gets us out of the scripted world into a place of endless possibilities, especially when it is abstract. My palette is like a mood ring. The colors I use reflect what is going on inside me”.
My beginnings
“Eight years ago, I took a leap of faith to enhance my artistic talent by attending my first Art Workshop that was led by an art professional teacher and friend. I shared a studio space with enthusiastic artist women. I spent two years truly discovering the potential of colors and training my eyes to depict details in nature scenes. I spent two years immersed in art and nature.
My instructor was not sure about my impressionistic style and kept trying to sway me back to realism. In addition, I was attracted by Arabic calligraphy and its elegant styles. I have dipped my toes somewhat in the facet of art”.
artistic style
“My artwork is a fusion of two traditional art forms: Arabic calligraphy and women’s portraiture. I am drawn to the fluidity, harmony, grace, and beauty of Arabic calligraphy, and I love to integrate it with the feminine portrait.
My paintings are often abstract with the calligraphy forming the background or foreground of the portrait. The calligraphy can be delicate and flowing, or it can be bold and angular. I often use different colors and textures to create a sense of depth and movement in my paintings.
My artwork is often described as being both feminine and powerful. The calligraphy can be seen as a symbol of strength and resilience, while the feminine portrait represents beauty and vulnerability. With my artwork, I work on exploring the complex relationship between those two forces, even if this would challenge traditional gender notions.
My artwork is a unique and powerful expression of my artistic vision. By exploring simultaneously both of Arabic calligraphy and women’s portraiture subjects, I find myself combining them in a way that is both visually stunning and emotionally resonant.

Sometimes, It takes on a high-key vibrancy unintentionally and at other times, it is the opposite. I love the ever-changing nature of my work, and get immense enjoyment from painting this way. It is truly amazing how intertwined our lives and art really are, especially with abstract art, which is so much about feeling and soul.

Inspiring great artists
Moreover, I am deeply inspired by the professional talent of Paul guiragossian, Emmanuel Guiragossian, Wajih Nahle, Yvette Achkar, Pierre Soulages, Chris Lucas and Eric Lepape whose use of color is otherworldly.
Photography, poetry and music also fill me up.
These artists are deep sources of sights for me. They remind me that life can be as simple as sipping a cup of coffee or as dramatic as the storm and that I should manifest this into my paintings.
I beleive that the mission of artists and poets is to attract attention, promote reflection, arouse and illuminate the reality.
In short, art and poetry can exalt freedom.
